My son Liam was born 21.02.02 at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after a normal pregnancy & birth. The youngest of my six children he was lethargic & uninterested in feeding.
As I felt he was slightly snuffle & pale I took him to the GP who at once sent him up to Ninewells Hospital where he was diagnosed with heart failure & Vein of Galen Malformation was identified by scan.
Five weeks on he is still in hospital. The heart failure is now under control; Liam now needs to gain weight in order that his treatment can go ahead for embolisation in Yorkhill Glasgow in July.
I realise that he is in a good category for babies born with Vein of Galen Malformation in that he is not too unwell & can afford to grow a little until the first embolisation.
I will be taking Liam home this week & will be concentrating on his general health & weight gain, at birth Liam weighed 3.9kg his weight now is 4.3kg. Liam is still quite floppy & his head measurement is at the higher end of the scale, but he can feed normally & is being tube fed at night. Liam is still exceptionally sleepy at times, I look forward to the day Liam can have a new lease of life I will keep everyone posted on his progress
Liam was embolised in Glasgow 15th May & very sadly died a few hours later
