Andrew's Story

Andrew was born on March 31, 2003 at 3:42 PM via c-section. He was about 3 1/2 weeks early. He weighed 3 lbs 14.5 oz and was 17 1/4 inches long. He has red hair and big brown eyes. Just like his big sister. Andrew had been diagnosed with mild ventricularmegly (enlargement of the ventricles in the brain) at about 17 weeks gestation. We continued to go in for in depth ultrasounds and his condition continued to get worse. He then was having heart problems, becoming non reactive and failing to thrive. At about 28 weeks gestation he was finally diagnosed with VGM and AVM. We then saw a Neurosurgeon and she told us that Andrews VGM was really big and his prognosis was very poor. The following day after Andrew was delivered they did a CAT Scan and MRI on his brain. They then learned that he must have suffered many strokes while in utero and found he had no living brain tissue left. He was just living on his brain stem. They gave him days to months to live. The following day Andrew passed away in our arms. His time was too short. The hugs and kisses were too few. Although it was a brief encounter, words cannot say what he means to us. He will always be our sweet angel that we asked for.
